CANADA FUND FOR LOCAL INITIATIVES 2017-2018 – CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Embassy of Canada in Croatia is pleased to inform you that call for project proposals for Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is open.

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is an important component of the Canadian Government’s development assistance envelope. Reflecting the priorities of the Government of Canada and taking into account the socioeconomic and political context of Kosovo, the CFLI focuses on working with civil society, particularly grassroots organizations, to support democratic governance and to promote human rights. Preference will be given to projects promoting the participation of women and indigenous and vulnerable minority groups and to projects that have a strong advocacy component.

The call for proposals seeks projects that are of a maximum duration of seven months (implemented between July 31, 2017 and February 28, 2018). Requests for core funding will not be considered. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of CAD $10,000-$20,000 for each individual project. Larger or smaller projects may be considered on an exceptional basis, with appropriate justification for use of funds. Once a thorough assessment of your application is complete, you will be notified of the decision. There is no need to contact the Embassy for updates on the status of your application. Please note the deadline for proposal submission is June 27, 2017, at 12:00 (local time). Any submissions received after that time will not be considered.

Proposals submitted for funding must relate to one of the priorities below:

  • Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
  • Promoting human development, specifically in the areas of health, nutrition, and education
  • Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
  • Supporting inclusive and green economic growth
  • Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
  • Promoting peace and security

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) provides direct funding assistance to community groups, non-government organizations, people’s organizations and in exceptional cases, international NGOs, and government institutions for small projects addressing governance, democracy, capacity-building, economic, and other social development issues. The Embassy of Canada in Croatia is responsible for the CFLI program in Kosovo.

The Embassy of Canada is launching a call for proposals for CFLI. The call for proposals seeks projects that are of a maximum duration of four months (with activities completed by February 28, 2017). Requests for core funding will not be considered. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of CAD $10,000-$20,000 for each individual project. Larger or smaller projects may be considered on an exceptional basis, with appropriate justification for use of funds. Once a thorough assessment of your application is complete, you will be notified of the decision. There is no need to contact the Embassy for updates on the status of your application. Please note the deadline for proposal submission is Tuesday, September 13, 2016 by midnight. Proposals received after this date will not be considered.

Larger or smaller projects may be considered on an exceptional basis, with appropriate justification for use of funds. Once a thorough assessment of your application is complete, you will be notified of the decision. There is no need to contact the Embassy for updates on the status of your application. Please note the deadline for proposal submission is Friday, September 18, 2015, at 12:00. Proposals received after this date will not be considered.

Proposals submitted for funding must relate to one of the priorities below:

I. Preventing sexual and gender based violence;
II. Protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, including vulnerable groups such as sexual minorities;
III. Supporting democratic transition and expanded democratic participation, particularly by women and minority groups;
IV. Entrenching the rule of law and combatting the destabilizing impact of crime and corruption, including through security sector capacity building;
V. Strengthening economic governance, including building free markets and an effective enabling environment for business;
VI. Preventing child, early and forced marriage (CEFM);
VII. Protecting religious freedom.
