Slaviša Mladenović is serving his second term as the Language Commissioner of Kosovo, a role in which he strongly advocates for institutional protection and promotion of the use of official languages in Kosovo, in particular minority languages. During his tenure he launched several initiatives to further this goal, including creation of a translation unit in the government to ensure accurate translation of legislation, and supported initiatives as an Albanian-Serbian-Albanian digital dictionary, language learning platform and creation of the program of Balkanistics in the University of Pristina.  Slaviša often publicly demands accountability from institutions, which often neglect on of the official languages in daily operation, in most of the cases Serbian language. Crucial legislation, which is primarily drafted in Albanian language, is not adequately translated in Serbian, which could lead inadequate of application of interpretation of the legislation in Serbian language. Slaviša works to provide constructive engagement on sensitive issues and advocacy on human rights challenges, particularly those facing the linguistic minorities and members of ethnic communities.
